Incomings – Your exchange semester at RH Köln

Willkommen– we are happy that you have decided to complete part of your studies at Rheinische Hochschule Köln. Studying abroad is about more than just lectures and libraries—it is an opportunity to immerse yourself in a new culture, learn a new language, and build friendships that span the globe.

As a university, we view internationality to be highly relevant for us and our society as a whole. An international network such as Erasmus+ fosters intercultural competences and an exchange of ideas and experiences not only in you as an incoming student but also in any connections you make here.

We look forward to welcoming you to our campus and helping you succeed in your studies.

  • Visa Information

Students from EU countries do not need a visa to study in Germany.

Students from most non-EU countries must obtain a valid student visa at the German embassy or consulate in their native country before travelling to Germany. Please note that it can take up to several months for your visa application to be processed!

Unfortunately, we are unable to give guidance on visa related issues. We partnered up with VisaFlow in this regard as they offer a web app designed to ease the transition of international students to Germany. You can use the app for free with the code "RHKOELN25" under platform.visaflow.app.

  • Information on Housing Possibilities

Unfortunately, there is no student accommodation for our students. Incoming Erasmus students usually find a room in a shared house or stay at a private dormitory.
On the following websites, you can search for your own apartment or a room in a shared place:

    • wg-gesucht.de
    • kleinanzeigen.de
    • immobilienscout24.de

You can also find a room in a private student dormitory:

    • felixx-student.de/studentenwohnheime/koeln-hoeninger-weg/
    • k-apart-student.de/en/welcome
    • zimmerei.apartments/en/rent-apartment-cologne/

You may also find a place through your social media such as via flatsforfriendz on Instagram.

Please be careful in your search for housing. As international students often have to book accommodation from abroad, they can be targets for rental fraud.

Make sure you follow these tips:

    • No payment without a contract: never transfer money until you have a written lease agreement that includes the owner’s details and the exact address of the property
    • The “live video” test: if you cannot visit in person, ask for a live video tour. A scammer will usually make excuses why they cannot do this (e.g., “I’m out of the country”)
    • Check the address: use google maps to see if the building actually exists and matches the photos provided
    • If it is “too good to be true” it probably isn’t true: trust your gut feeling and do not send money if someone is pressuring you to do so
  • Information for International Degree Seeking Students

You are an international student looking to do a full Bachelor or Master programme in Germany? In this case, you apply and enrol just as any German student does. If any questions arise, our study advisory service is happy to help you.

  • Publication ECHE & EPS

The Erasmus Charta for Higher Education (ECHE) was awarded to Rheinische Hochschule Köln by the European Commission. It demonstrates that our institution fulfils all requirements for a successful participation in the Erasmus+ programme.
